Class Level Details
1 2 Intro Individual, suitable for beginners. POR up to 15km, Jumps 70cm max, Non qualifier.
2 2 Intro Pairs, suitable for beginners. POR up to 15km, Jumps 70cm max, Non qualifier.
3 2 Individual, POR up to 20km, jumps 70cm Max, Qualifier for British championships
4 2 Pairs, POR Up to 20km, jumps 70cm max, Qualifier for British championships
5 3 Individual, POR up to 32km, jumps 80cm max, Qualifier for British championships
6 3 Pairs, POR up to 32km, jumps 80cm max, Qualifier for British championship
7 4 Individuals, POR up to 40km, Jumps 90cm max, Qualifier for British championships
Level 2 Intro class = This class will be run over a shorter and less technical route. It will be up to 15km in length
and the jumps will be up to 70cm approx. This is not a qualifier for the championships of Great Britain and
competitors will not be required to have their horses vetted in this class. This will be suitable for first timers, or those
not wishing to qualify. Entry fee £35. Please provide details of your public liability insurance if not a BHS or
BRC member.
Level 2 = This class will be up to 20km, with a more technical route and the jumps will be up to 70cm approx. This
class (Individuals and Pairs) will be qualifiers for the championships of Great Britain.Entry fee £40/ £45 non members
Level 3 = This class can be up to 32km, but will not be up to full length and the jumps will be up to 80cm approx.
You must be prepared to use eight figure grid references and bearings to compete in this class, however these will
be simplified from the level 4s. This class (Individuals and pairs) will be qualifiers for the championship of Great
Britain. Entry fee £50/ £55 non members
Level 4 = This class can be up to 40km, but may not
be up to full length and the jumps will be up to 90cm
approx. You must be prepared to use eight figure grid
references and bearings to compete in this class. This
class will be a qualifier for the championships of Great
Britain. Entry fee £55 /£60 non members
General information
General Information
To enter a qualifier class, you must be a BHS Gold member or
a member of an Affiliated British Riding Club and the relevant
membership number must be written on your entry form.If
you are not a BHS Gold member or a member of an Affiliated
Riding Club, your entry is still welcomed but a copy of your
insurance policy (showing suitable third party liability
insurance), that is valid on the days of the competition, MUST
be sent with your entry form.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The area:
Is one of outstanding natural beauty, owned by the Clinton Devon Estates. It includes the Otter River Valley and
Mutters Moor to the west of Sidmouth. It is well known for being popular with walkers, horse riders and for
orienteering and is also used by the Royal Marines for training! Sir Walter Raleigh owned a house there called Hayes
Barton. There are lots of websites listed under ‘Woodbury Common’ and Clinton Devon Estates’ with a wealth of
information about the area. The terrain encompasses heathlands, moorland, forestry and old woodlands set in gently
rolling hills with steeper terrain beyond the Otter River, beautiful views to the sea and across Devon to Dartmoor.
Arrival at the Venue:
You may arrive at Bicton from 1pm on Friday the 10th July. Vetting for all competitors in Level 2,3 and 4 classes will
take place between 4pm and 8pm on the Friday. As Woodbury Common is open to riders at all times, you may wish
to ride out from the venue using the main gateway for access.
Saturday night social event =
Will be held in the onsite catering marquee.
The cost of this will be £12 per person. Options are a sizzling local hog roast freshly cooked served with a large
floured white and wholemeal rolls, Chef’s own stuffing, Bramley apple sauce, tossed mixed leaves and tomato sauce
and mustard or the vegetarian option of a homemade spicy bean burger with tomato relish with a homemade
coleslaw, rice salad and a baby jacket potato. All served with a selection of desserts.
Camping and corralling =
Camping and corralling will be £15 for the whole weekend, including a pitch for your car, horsebox, tent etc and
corral. You will need to bring your own electric fencing and fence posts.
Site facilities =
Set in 60 acres of parkland, Bicton Arena is one of the Southwest’s premier equestrian venues. There are 120
permanent stables and plenty of room for camping and corralling near to the toilets and showers. Please remember
to bring some 50 p pieces, as these are required for the showers to work! The nearest town is East Budleigh
approximately 1 km South of the entrance to Bicton. There are shops, pubs, restaurants and B and B’s. There will be
a farrier present on Saturday after the POR and on call Sunday. Competitors should consider bringing spare shoes
that have been made for their horse; perhaps saved from the last shoeing.
Stabling and accommodation =
Stabling is available for £15 per night without bedding, please bring own feed, mucking out tools etc. If you require
further information on accommodation please contact the organiser for details.
Special awards =
- Highest PTV score rosette for each class
- Highest placed level 3 individual first timer (Class 5, please state on entry form if eligible)
Competitor information =
General information and directions will be available on the website www.bictontrec.weebly.com or on the TREC-UK
website www.trec-uk.com no later than Monday 6th July 2009. Any queries should be emailed to the organiser.
Volunteer Judges and helpers =
TREC competitions rely on volunteer judges and helpers to assist in running the event. If you have any family
members or friends willing to help on either one or both days then please state their names on the entry form. A
complimentary ticket for the Saturday evening meal and packed lunches will be provided to all judges and helpers.
Health and safety =
The event manager/organiser has taken all reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone
present. For these measure to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent
accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the officials and stewards on the day. Irresponsible riding that
is considered by the organiser to be compromising the safety of others will result in elimination from the competition.
